ARTIST TALK & TOUR OF THE EXHIBIT
Saturday, January 18, 2020, 2-4 pm
From the Los Altos Hills Newsletter:
The fine art group exhibit “Layers” featuring members of the Women’s Caucus for Art, Peninsula Chapter, will be on display at the Los Altos Hills Town Hall from September 2019 through March 2020. Founded in 1972 in connection with the College Art Association, Women's Caucus for Art is a national member organization unique in its multi-disciplinary, multicultural membership of artists, art historians, students/educators, and museum professionals. The mission of the Women's Caucus for Art is to expand opportunities and recognition for women in the arts.
Considering the Bay Area geography, the WCA decided to assign tasks by region, recognizing the obvious need to split the membership into separate chapters. The Peninsula Chapter was established in 1991 and serves the San Francisco South Bay & Peninsula area of California. The artists of the Peninsula Chapter employ a wide range of media and demonstrate a remarkable diversity in style and content.
The expression of this exhibit proves that works of art have many layers: layers of interpretation, meaning, emotion and sometimes layers of color and materials. The women who create these works have underlying layers of understanding that are revealed in the process. Members of the Peninsula Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art are invited to move through these layers and create work for this exhibit. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly yet tie together women’s character with artistic style. Others may choose to focus on the conceptual connotations.
The artists’ reception, free and open to the public, will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2019, from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at Town Hall, featuring live music by Rebecca and Gary Lee Parks. Refreshments and wine will be available. An art walk-and-talk tour of the exhibit, also free and open to the public, will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Town Hall.
